Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
ADHD is not merely an attention deficit but a dysregulation of attention. If you have ADHD, you may find your mind is in constant motion, you are easily distracted, and you struggle to maintain focus. Concentration, listening, remembering, and organization can overwhelm you and pose significant challenges. On the other hand, you may find you are able to hyperfocus when faced with an exciting or urgent topic.
The hyperactivity aspect of ADHD can be seen as a dysregulation of movement. Restlessness, an urge to fidget, and difficulty remaining seated are all common symptoms as your inner drive is propelling you to be in motion. Although this restlessness may be perceived as disruptive by others, continuous movement makes you feel normal and serves as an effective outlet for your energy.
Emotional dysregulation is another common aspect of ADHD. As this occurs in many other disorders it is not on the diagnostic list, however it can pose additional challenges in your life.
Experiencing the following symptoms can be signs of ADHD:
Chronic forgetfulness
Poor time management
Taking on too many projects
Disorganisation
Repeated underachievement
Mood fluctuation
Difficulties in maintaining relationships
Impulsive decision-making
Challenges with self-control
